High Fidelity

The Legend:
Marketing:
5.0 A dismal ad campaign that listed all the critics thoughts on the films. They should have sold the film itself...
Performances:
8.5 Fact of the matter is, this is a one man show, and if you like John Cussack, you will like this movie.
Production Design:
8.0 You know that dumpy little record store your friends who like hard to find vinyl hang out at. This is it...
Score:
10 One of the best mixed-genre soundtracks I have heard in a long, long time. Must buy.
Overall Rating:
8.5 Not as serious or witty as some of John Cussack's other roles, but it is a fun and entertaining movie.

Flat out. This is boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back. But this is a version of that with some real hard truths smashed into it, along with some sharp dialogue, and really great music.

Along the way they also touch on fear of commitment, hating your job, falling in love and other pop favorites. Losing points for being a formula film, but infused with enough originality, and laugh-out-loud parts to almost make you forget you've seen this story before.

The Top 5 Reasons you should see this film.

  1. To find out why record store employees never seem to leave the store
  2. To find out what Darlene's doing since Rosanne
  3. The four pieces of information that make Rob an asshole
  4. Rob's responses (real and imaginary) to Ian's plea to leave Laura alone.
  5. Barry Jive and the Uptown 5

The Bottom Line
Grosse Pointe Blank it's not. But it is fun and funny. And you might just think twice about "the One that got away" when the credits roll.
