If you've ever been to a funeral for someone that wasn't exactly liked, you'll find this movie even
funnier than it already is. I can tell you that I have, and I laughed myself to tears during this movie.
A worthy successor to Ruthless People without all the warm and fuzzy parts. Just in-your-face
humor about a town who's meanest resident winds up dead, and no one cares.
The prime suspect Bobby is played Casey Affleck (who I can only assume is Ben Affleck's brother), a mild
mannered landscaper who makes the mistake of going into business with Mona's drunkard, pedophile, one-handed
son, who cares about Mona's death as much as anyone else (not a bit). And while everyone assumes
he did it, they're too busy thanking him to prosecute him.
There are several truly great moments in this movie, beginning with the buzz around town
when Mona is found dead. But the funeral scene is absolutely priceless, and well worth the cost of admission by itself.
Keep an eye on the funeral director...
Each of the characters is as quirky and unforgettable as the next, and all of them make real
contributions to the movie. So if you wanna laugh at someone elses misfortune, or just don't
mind a reminder that "Mean People Suck", you've gotta see this movie.
If you can handle the subject rent it. If you hated Beaches, and want to see Bette Midler dead, rent it.
If you loved Ruthless People, rent it. Oh just go rent it...
