The idea of seeing a drama, based on the story of the King and I may sound pretty unappealing.
And I'll say that I wasn't exactly fired up to see this one. The recollections of Yule Brennar dancing
around and singing about being the king of Siam where enough to give me nightmares for a week.
You can put you fears to rest, and I can declare that this is a safe rental. There's not a single
word of dialogue that would ever lead you to believe that someone is about to bust out into song.
Simply put, this is the story of the King of Siam, and the English woman who he brings to Siam to
teach his children and wives the way of the west. The culture shock she experiences, and the way the
two worlds finally find there own way together. It is also a film about betrayal and political uprising
that is set into motion, and attempts to undo the reign of the king and his family.
If you enjoy historical dramas, this is well worth your time. An extravagant production with wonderful
performances. This films well worth your time.
Expect to hear about this one come Oscar time. (Not that it will win, but expect to hear about it.)
A great story, told in the classic epic sense. It's obvious from the production that there were
no corners cut here.
